Conduct in the Community

The role of a member in the Talmidei Yeshua Fellowship community is important. We are building a community that is grounded in love, respect, and honour in order for us to uplift, encourage, and build up one another. Our responsibility as members of the community are significant and scripture speaks clearly about these responsibilities.

Below is a list of duties for all believers in the community, to:
  1. Love all members of the community. Even if a believer possesses numerous good attributes and gifts but lacks love, he or she is spiritually destitute! Our community is founded on love and everyone must make the pursuit of love their foremost priority (1 Cor 13:4-8, Gal 5:14-15, Gal 5:22-26, Eph 4:1-6, Eph 4:11-16, Eph 5:1-10, Col 2:12, Col 3:12-16, 1 Pet 2:17, 1 Pet 4:8-9).
  2. Support one another. If anyone in the community is lacking in daily needs we must give out of our bounty to support them (Acts 11:28-30).
  3. Find one's gifts and role and pursue it vigorously. Everyone is called to contribute to one another in the community, whether it is serving, teaching, encouraging, leading or helping (Rom 12:4-8).
  4. Be peaceful and build up one another. Do not gossip or slander anybody in the community or other brothers or sisters in Elohim (Rom 14:19, Rom 15:1-2, Phill 2:4, Phill 2:14, 1 Thess 5:11-13, 1 Pet 3:8-9).
  5. Accept one another for who they are in Messiah, and to be tolerant of any differences in personality or interests (Rom 15:7, James 2:5-9).
  6. Live harmoniously within the community and to not give way to divisive thoughts, speech, or people. It is of primary importance for a community to be knitted together in the same mind and opinion (1 Cor 1:10, 1 Cor 12:12, 1 Cor 12:22-26, Eph 4:29-32).
  7. Judge one another in love, humility, respect, forbearance, and fairness according the manner prescribed in Scripture (1 Cor 4:5, James 4:11).
  8. Be in subjection to the Elders as they are appointed authorities and worthy of double respect as Scripture says affirmatively (Tit 3:1-2, Heb 13:17, 1 Pet 5:5).
  9. Assemble together as a versatile community for the purposes of helping one another to grow through loving encouragement (Heb 10:24-25).
  10. Be hospitable to strangers, as well as to members of the community, and thus show them both the love and power of our Messiah (Heb 13:1-2).
  11. (Older men) Be wise, sober, and sensible and sound in faith, in love, and in endurance. Be an example to the younger men on the way believing men should live, and they, in turn, are worthy of respect (Tit 2:1-10).
  12. (Older women) Be holy in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of what is good, and trainers of younger women on how to love their husbands and keepers of their home. (Tit 2:1-10).
Below are listed all of the Scriptural citations used above:

1) They continued with one mind, breaking bread from house to house, ate food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising Elohim. Acts 2:46

2) Famine and hunger amongst the brothers. They gave out of their ability by giving to elders in that area to distribute. Acts 11:28-30

3) For as we have many members in one body, but all members do not have the same function, so we the many, are one body in Messiah, and members each one of one another. Now having different gifts, according to the favour which was given to us, let us use them accordingly; if prophecy, according to the proportion of belief; if serving, in the serving; or he who is teaching, in the teaching; or he who encourages, in the encouragement; or he who is sharing, in sincerity; he who is leading, in diligence; he who shows compassion, joyously. Rom 12:4-8

4) In brotherly love, tenderly loving towards one another, in appreciation, giving preference to each other; not idle in duty, ardent in spirit, serving the Master; rejoicing in the expectancy, enduring under pressure, continuing steadfastly in prayer; imparting to the needs of the Holy ones, pursuing kindness towards strangers. Bless those who persecute you – bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not be proud in mind, but go along with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, on your part, be at peace with all men. Rom. 12:10-18

5) So, then let us pursue the matters of peace and the matters for building up one another. Rom 14:19

6) But we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each one of us please his neighbour for his good, to build him up. Rom 15:1-2

7) So accept one another, as Messiah also did accept us, to the esteem of Elohim. Rom 15:7

8) And I appeal to you, brothers, by the Name of our Master Yeshua Messiah, that you all agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be knit together in the same mind and of the same opinion. 1 Cor 1:10

9) I fed you with milk and not with solid food, for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able, for you are still fleshly. For since there is envy, and strife, and divisions among you, are you not fleshly and walking according to men? 1 Cor 3:2-3

10) So do not judge any at all before the time, until the Master comes, who shall bring to light what is hidden in darkness and reveal the thoughts of the hearts. And then each one’s praise shall come from God. 1 Cor 4:5

11) But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone called a brother, if he is one who whores, or greedy of gain, or an idolator, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler not even to eat with such a one. 1 Cor 5:11

12) And there are different kinds of gift, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of services, but the same Master. And there are different kinds of workings, but it is the same God who is working all in all. 1 Cor 12:4-6

13) For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is the Messiah. 1 Cor 12:12

14) But much rather, those members of the body which are thought to be weaker are necessary.  And to those of the body which we think to be less respected, these we present greater respect. And our unseemingly members have greater seemliness, whereas our seemly members have no need. But God blended together the body, having given greater respect to that member which lacks it, that there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same concern one for another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is esteemed, all the members rejoice with it. 1 Cor 22-26

15) Love is patient, is kind, love does not envy, love does not boast, is not puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not seek its own, is not provoked, reckons not the evil, does not rejoice over the unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth, it covers all, believes all, expects all, endures all. Love never fails. 1 Cor 13:4-8a

16) What then is it, brothers? Whenever you come together, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all be done for upbuilding. 1 Cor 14:26

17) Do not be led astray, “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 1 Cor 15:33

18) Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Master, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Master. 1 Cor 15:58

19) He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows on blessing shall also reap on blessing. Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not of grief or of necessity, for God loves a joyous giver. And God is able to make all favour overflow toward you, that you, always having all you need in every way, have plenty for every good work. As it has been written, “He scattered abroad, He gave to the poor, His righteousness remains forever,” And He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, shall supply and increase the seed you have sown and increase the fruit of your righteousness, being enriched in every way for all simplicity, which works out thanksgiving to God through us. 2 Cor 9:6-11

20) For the entire Torah is completed in one word, in this “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” And if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another. Gal 5:14-15

21) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustworthiness, gentleness, self-control…Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Gal 5:22-23, 26

22) And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not grow weary. So then, as we have occasion let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of the belief. Gal 6:9-10

23) I call upon you therefore, to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and meekness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to guard the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace – one body and one Spirit, as you also were called in one expectation of your calling, one Master, one belief, one immersion, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Eph 4:1-6

24) And He Himself gave some as emissaries, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as shepards and teachers for the perfecting of the Holy ones, to the work of service to a building up of the body of the Messiah, until we all come to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the Son of Elohim, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the completeness of Messiah, so that we should no longer be children, tossed and borne about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of men, in cleverness, unto the craftiness of leading astray, but maintaining the truth in love, we grow up in all respects into Him who is the head, Messiah, from whom the entire body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the working by which each part does its share, causes growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Eph 4:11-16

25) Therefore, having put off the false, speak truth, each one with his neighbour, for we are members of one another. Be wroth, but do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your rage, nor give place to the devil. Eph 4:25-27

26) Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth, but only such as is good for the use of building up, so as to impart what is pleasant to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of Elohim, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and displeasure, and uproar, and slander be put away from you, along with all evil. And be kind towards one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as Elohim also forgave you in Messiah. Eph 4:29-32

27) Become, then, imitators of Elohim as beloved children. And walk in love, as Messiah also has loved us, and gave Himself for us, a gift and an offering to Elohim for a sweet-smelling fragrance. But whoring and all uncleanness, or greed of gain, let it not even be named among you, as is proper among Holy ones – neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather thanksgiving. For this you know, that no one who whores, nor unclean one, nor one greedy of gain, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the reign of Messiah and Elohim. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these the wrath of Elohim come upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Master. Walk as children of light – for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness and truth – proving what is well-pleasing to the Master. Eph 5:1-10

28) Each one should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Phill 2:4

29) Do all matters without grumblings and disputings. Phill 2:14

30) For the rest, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is righteous, whatever is clean, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any uprightness and if there is any praise, think on these. Phill 4:8

31) Not that I speak concerning need, for I have learned to be content in whatever state I am. I know what it is to be humbled, and I know what it is to have in excess. In any and every situation I have learned both to be filled, and to be hungry, both to have in excess, and to be in need. I have strength to do all, through Messiah who empowers me. Phill 4:11-13

32) The hearts of those in Laodikeia and Colosse have their hearts knit together in love. Col 2:12

33) See to it that no one makes prey of you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary matters of the world, and not according to Messiah. Col 2:8

34) Let no one therefore judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a festival or a new moon or Shabbat – which are a shadow of what is to come but the Body of the Messiah. Col 2:16-17

35) Therefore, as chosen ones of Elohim, Holy and beloved, put on compassion, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other if anyone has a complaint against another, indeed, as Messiah forgave you so also should you. But above all these put on love, which is a bond of the perfection. And let the peace of Elohim rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one Body, and be filled with thanks. Let the Word of Messiah dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing with pleasure in your hearts to the Master in psalms, and songs of praise and spiritual songs. Col 3:12-16

36) Therefore encourage one another, and build up one another, as indeed you do. But Brothers, we beg you to know those who labour among you, and are over you in the Master and admonish you, and to hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 1 Thess 5:11-13

37) Let no one deceive you in any way, because the falling away is the first to come and the man of lawlessness is to be revealed, the son of destruction. 2 Thess 2:3

38) But we command you, Brothers, in the Name of our Master Yeshua Messiah, that you withdraw from every Brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which you received from us…For we hear of some among you walking disorderly, not working at all, but are busybodies. Bue we command and urge such, through our Master Yeshua Messiah, to settle down, work and eat their own bread. And you, Brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. And if anyone does not obey our word in this letter, note that one, and do not keep company with him, so that he is put to shame. However, do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a Brother. 2 Thess 3:6, 11-15

39) Likewise Attendants are to be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for filthy gain, holding to the secret of the belief with a clean conscience. 1 Tim 3:8-9

40) Until I come, give attention to reading of Scripture, to encouragement, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the elderhood. Practice these matters, be in them, so that your progress might be plain to all. Pay attention to yourself and to the teaching. Continue in them, for in doing this you shall save both yourself and those who hear you. 1 Tim 4:13-16

41) But you, speak what is fitting for sound teaching; the older men are to be sober, serious sensible, sound in belief, in love, in endurance, the older women likewise are to be holy in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of what is good, in order for them to train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, blameless, workers at home, good, subject to their own husbands, in order that the word of Elohim is not evil spoken of. Likewise urge the young men to be sensible. Show yourself to them an example of good works in all matters. In teaching show uncorruptness, seriousness, soundness of speech beyond reproach, in order that the opponent is put to shame, having no evil word to say about you. Servants should be subject to their own masters, to be well-pleasing in every way, not back talking, not stealing, but showing all good trustworthiness, so that they adorn the teaching of Elohim our Saviour in every way. Tit 2:1-10

42) Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, not to slander anyone, not to be quarrelsome, to be gentle, showing all meekness to all men. Tit 3:1-2

43) But encourage one another daily, while it is called “Today”, lest any of you be hardened by the deceivableness of sin. Heb 2:13

44) And let us be concerned for one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging, and so much more as you see the day coming near. Heb 10:24-25

45) Let the brotherly love continue. Do not forget to receive strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained messengers. Heb 13:1-2

46) Yeshua Messiah is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. Do not be borne about by various and strange teachings. Heb 13:8-9a

47) Obey those leading you, and be subject to them, for they watch for your lives, as having to give account. Let them do so with joy and not groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Heb 13:17

48) Listen, my beloved brothers; Has Elohim not chosen the poor of this world, rich in belief and heirs of the reign which He promised to those who love Him? But you have shown disrespect towards the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into courts? If you truly accomplish the sovereign law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,” you do well, but if you show partiality by the Torah as transgressors. James 2:5-9

49) Brothers don’t speak against one another. He that speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against Torah and judges Torah. James 4:11

50) Respect all, love the brotherhood, fear Elohim, respect the sovereign. 1 Peter 2:17

51) In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that if any are disobedient to the Word, they, without a word, might be won by the behaviour in fear. Your adornment should not be outward arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on dresses – but the hidden man of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and peaceable spirit, which is of great value before Elohim. For this way, in former times, the holy women who trusted in Elohim also adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him master, of whom you became children, doing good, and not frightened by any fear. 1 Peter 3:1-6

52) In the same way, husbands live understandingly together, giving respect to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the favour of life, so that your prayers are not hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

53) To sum up, let all of you be likeminded, sympathetic, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, humble-minded, not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, in order to inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-9

54) And above all have fervent love for one another, because love covers a great number of sins. Welcome one another without grumbling. 1 Peter 4:8-9

55) In the same way, you younger ones, be subject to elders. And gird yourselves with humility toward one another, for “Elohim resists the proud, but gives favour to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5

56) So then, beloved ones, looking forward to this, do your utmost to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless. 2 Peter 3:14
